The Beach House, Candolim

When our client handed over to us a decrepit old structure on a beautiful site along one of Goa’s most popular beaches, we saw at once an opportunity to do something potentially spectacular. We wanted to convert what was a heavy concrete building into something that sat lightly on the ground, so we took off the concrete roof and much of the framed RCC structure and replaced it with a steel structure that was lean and light. The beach-facing facade is almost entirely transparent - Glulam timber sliding doors giving the indoor spaces near-uninterrupted views of the outdoors. Limestone floors, lime-plaster internal walls and teakwood ceilings and outdoor decks completed the minimal but earthy palette.
