Todur House, Karwar

Belonging to a large family that is today spread across the world, the Todur House is a charming turn-of-the-20th-century home that had fallen into a state of relative disrepair over the years. Built in the traditional North Canara style, much of the original building including the beautiful wooden lattice-work and the timber floors were in intact, requiring no more than a gentle coaxing-back into a pristine state. Materials, techniques and artisans were kept as traditional as possible. Only minor internal changes were made, to introduce bathrooms and other ‘modern’ amenities. This ancestral house has seen multiple generations grow up within its walls, and it was important that it look and feel like it!
